Rainer Spehl
Open Studio
Rainer Spehl Studio is pleased to invite you to an Open Studio, an exhibition bringing together new works and all time classics.
Over the last years Rainer has created individual works that oscillate between functionality and objectness. The classically crafted objects combine the attentiveness to function and the workmanship with an artist’s eye to design, thus transforming everyday objects into objects of art.
Beginning with a rythm of lines and surfaces, the objects’ appearance bears the stamp of natures’s imponderability. Based on a conceptual and sensual understanding of forms and materials the final pieces play with discolorations and purported defects in contrast to the aesthetically pleasing design.
"Schemel" - New editions of the three-legged wooden stool. The original schemel has been taken a step further, introducing a vivid colour scheme as well as a more traditional joinery method.
"Purple Heart" - A set of works made from a South American timber with an intriguing natural purple colour.
"Red Cherry" - A large scale round table made from solid North American red cherry with a colourful central base.
